Groot Aviation

About us

Groot Aviation Safety is a professional aviation training centre based on the beautiful island of Texel in the Netherlands. It was founded and is run by Jan Groot, an EASA flight instructor and examiner with extensive experience. Groot Aviation specialises in aerobatics, advanced UPRT (uncontrolled flight situation prevention and recovery training) and flight safety for licensed pilots.
With over 20,000 flying hours, Jan Groot brings a wealth of experience in both military and commercial aviation. He began his career in the Royal Netherlands Air Force, then moved into the airline industry, developing a passion for aerobatics since the 1990s.

Jan began performing air exhibitions throughout Europe in the Stampe SV-4B and later honed his skills in the Pitts S-2B and his personal CAP 231, a high-performance single-seat aerobatic aircraft. With a sponsorship contract, he performed numerous air shows in the Netherlands and Benelux. He further expanded his aerobatic experience by flying the Interavia-3, a variant of the Sukhoi 29, and has accumulated over 2,000 hours in high-performance aerobatic aircraft alone.

In 2024, Jan added a Pitts S-2C to the fleet, a key part of our training platform.

At Groot Aviation Safety, our mission is to provide high-level training in aviation safety, primarily in aerobatic manoeuvres, deep stalls, spins and recovery techniques. We want to help provide pilots who join our school with confidence, safety and control through practical and advanced instruction. Our courses will always be safety-oriented, which is our highest priority.
